Honeywell Pioneers Safety Solutions for Growing EV Market in India

Honeywell, a US-based consumer technology company, has introduced innovative solutions to enhance safety in electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and usage. Their lithium-ion battery safety sensors are instrumental in detecting potential battery fires, providing crucial protection for drivers. Sarah Martin, President of Honeywell Sensing & Safety Technologies, emphasised the growing importance of EVs in sustainable travel, with over 10 million EVs sold worldwide last year.

India's EV market is poised for significant growth, projected at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 49% from 2022 to 2030. The popularity of electric scooters is rising, with more than half of India's three-wheeler vehicle registrations being electric last year. Electric two-wheelers are expected to reach $6.1 billion by 2030, growing by 27.3%. The sector's expansion in India could create 10 million direct jobs and 50 million allied jobs by 2030.

Ashish Modi, President of Honeywell India, expressed the company's commitment to advancing electric mobility safety standards in India. Honeywell's battery safety sensors, integrated into EV and scooter battery packs, detect thermal runaway risks, enabling timely warnings and enabling compliance with international battery fire safety standards. Additionally, through a strategic partnership with Nexceris, a developer of lithium-ion gas detection solutions, Honeywell is developing sensors to detect early thermal runaway indicators in EV and scooter batteries. This proactive approach can prevent costly property damage and injuries to drivers.

Furthermore, Honeywell provides a range of safety solutions, including electrical safety gear, portable and fixed gas detection technologies, as well as personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, face shields, and dielectric boots. These offerings are designed for high-risk areas like electrode mixing, coating, drying, and cell finishing, ensuring comprehensive safety measures in the evolving electric vehicle market.
