New Delhi

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), the state-owned Indian defence manufacturer, announced that it is partnering with MBDA, a world leader in developing and manufacturing missiles. The companies will assemble, integrate and test the Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM) in India.

MBDA will assist BDL to set up a facility within its manufacturing complex in Bhanur, Telangana. The operations of the facility will commence in 2022-23. MBDA will export the assembled missiles after supplying them for India’s use. This facility will provide assembly, integration, testing and maintenance of MBDA’s CAMM missile.

ASRAAM is an infrared homing missile that tracks targets within visual range by locking their heat signature. CAMM is a short-range surface-to-air missile used for anti-aircraft and anti-missile response.

Tushar M, a defence analyst at GlobalData, said that the technological know-how and manufacturing knowledge obtained from this partnership would aid Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in its Next-Generation Close Combat Missile (NGCCM) project.
