Apple begins training workers for Made-in-India iPhone Pro models

Apple Inc. has initiated the training of thousands of workers at its Tamil Nadu factory to produce the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models, aiming to align the production timeline as closely as possible with the global launch, according to the source news report.

In July, Apple planned to assemble the top-tier Pro and Pro Max versions of the upcoming iPhone 16 series in India for the first time through its partner, Foxconn Technology Group.

The Foxconn facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, will soon begin the 'new product introduction' (NPI) process for these models and will move to mass production once the devices are officially launched. Due to its advanced capabilities and deep integration within Apple's supply chain, Foxconn typically receives priority for new manufacturing assignments.

According to the source, Foxconn is expected to start assembling these premium devices "within weeks" of the global launch. Other Apple partners in India, including Pegatron and the Tata Group, may also begin producing the Pro models.

Additionally, Apple is expected to make the made-in-India standard iPhone 16 available on the same day as its worldwide release, according to the source.

Representatives from Apple, Foxconn, and Pegatron declined to comment on the matter, while Tata did not respond to requests for comments, the source reported.

Apple has been ramping up the production of its flagship iPhone models in India through Foxconn and Tata Electronics. Apple might resume preparations to manufacture iPads in India via Foxconn. Additionally, Apple is reportedly increasing the production of components for AirPod wireless charging cases through Jabil in Pune, with potential plans to involve Foxconn in the future. Production of made-in-India AirPods could begin as early as next year.
