In another step towards being a self-reliant nation, Brakes India Private Limited, a TSF Group Company unveiled their Motor on Drum brakes for the passenger car segment at Auto Expo 2023 on January 12. The product completely designed and developed in India claims to provide a large range of safety and comfort features to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and end customers.

Sharing more about the product Sriram Viji, Managing Director, Brakes India told, “With little change to the vehicle, the motor on drum brake provides hill hold, drive away assist, door open hold and also frees up the cabin by removing the tedious hand brake lever - potentially a big benefit in small cars. We are actively working with customers on new product development, including on EVs, where we can provide best-in-class efficiency, light- weighting and noise-free braking.”

A Make in India spirit
Talking about its making, K Vasudevan, President & Head, Light Vehicles Business of the company told, “Aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign, the team of engineers at Brakes India designed the software of motor on drum brakes in the home country. Right from the proto stage, all the activities like testing, development and manufacturing are in- house and a first in India. The design is compact and robust, and we are seeing tremendous interest from the market.” The said product has been validated in line with global braking norms and it will strengthen the company’s footprint in the electric vehicle segment market, he adds.

The company has ramped up their investments in product development and expanding capacity. Additionally focusing on augmented international reach, Viji said, "There is a very positive energy in the company right now that is driving our development over the next 5 years. This is also supported by the significant recovery in the automotive market across all segments combined with our growing export order book of close to Rs. 1500 Cr.”

A display of wide range at Auto Expo’23
Considering Auto Expo’23 to be a perfect platform to showcase their expertise and 6-decade long market leadership, Brakes India also displayed their complete air actuation range from the compact air distribution unit to condensate separator with supreme oil separation efficiency. The air braking system, iron castings and the aftermarket portfolio for both light and commercial vehicle segments were also at display.

“Our product range will span all the way from 9T LCVs to 60T tractor trailers across all use cases. With our vast field experience, we have made several patented improvements to the reliability and performance of these products. As the global market has limited choices today, Brakes India has a strong value proposition in this space. The team collected exhaustive field feedback/challenges, worked closely with fleet operators & drivers and benchmarked numerous products in the segment which led to the development of a product range that caters to the global commercial vehicle markets,” told D Sridharan, President and Head, Heavy Vehicles Business, Brakes India.

The company further aims to widen their market share while leveraging on their dependable distribution chain, working with co-located warehouses, world-class quality systems & quality performance. The company lays deep importance on sustainable practices in business & for the environment.
