Asbestos-Free Insulation For Presses

Sahney Kirkwood offers two new asbestos free materials, Satherm and Epotherm, that effectively meet stringent insulating requirements in various types of hydraulic and forging presses. While Satherm is suitable for continuous operating temperatures up to 500?C with peak loads up to 750?C, Epotherm is suitable for continuous operating temperatures up to 200? with peak loads up to 350?C. This parameter makes them suitable for platen and mould insulation in high temperature presses used for injection moulding and other rigorous applications. Low thermal conductivities of 0.16 W/m?K and 0.12 W/m?K for Satherm and Epotherm respectively make them excellent thermal insulators. This means lesser thicknesses of these materials are required as compared to other materials for achieving the same degree of thermal insulation. A very high compressive strength of 300 N/sq.mm enables them to withstand severe impact loads imposed in a press. Available in a range of thicknesses up to 100 mm, both Satherm and Epotherm have good machinability characteristics and can be formed to various shapes and sizes.
