Rittal now offers new explosion proof overpressure enclosures with integrated enclosure cooling units for potentially explosive applications in the oil and gas industries. This way, non-explosion-protected operating equipment can be safely accommodated and efficiently cooled in Zone II (gas) applications. The innovation consists of a series TS 8 enclosure suite with the dimensions: 1200 (800+400) x 2000 x 800 mm (WHD). Appropriate electrical components can be installed in the 800-mm wide enclosure part. The other section of the enclosure, divided off by a modified divider panel, offers space for the cooling equipment. To enable flexible and versatile configuration, the enclosures can easily be fitted with mounting plates, 19" profiles, and punched sections with mounting flanges. The enclosure is designed for an operating pressure of 1.5 to 2.0 mbar, in accordance with the DIN EN 60079-0 and DIN EN 60079-2 standards. This way, an explosion-free zone exists in the enclosure interior. Non-explosion-protected operating materials are thus well protected. As far as climate control technology is concerned, the design challenge was arranging the external air circuit, with all the components of the cooling circuit, in such a way that effective cooling output was provided, while at the same time meeting the demands of explosion-protection for Zone II (gas). Rittal has ensured a cooling output of up to 3.0 kW (L35/L35) thanks to a cooling concept especially developed for areas with a risk of explosion. The enclosure combination is ready for use in ex category II 3G and is supplied as a ready prepared empty enclosure. Appropriate solutions for explosion protection categories II 3D and Zone 22 are currently being prepared.
